Get Audition Ready + Top Tips

I can’t believe it is already audition time… 4 days to be exact! Even crazier that I am not auditioning this year. There have been changes in my life that have led me to this decision, but that’s for another blog post 🙂 This post is to help you in every way possible be ready to crush prelims + audition week, because as we all know, auditions do not last only a day. If you’re wondering if my advice has any valid points I was a three year member of the New Orleans Pelicans Dance Team, where I met lifelong friends and made amazingggg memories! Never take this opportunity for granted. This post will be very beneficial for newbies… I hope haha

  1. Take the week to mentally prepare
    • Since it is the week of tryouts, make sure your mind is in the game. This week and the week that follows can be pretty stressful. Make sure you remember that this is a fun experience and that your passion for dance is what got you there in the first place. Showing up to auditions is one of the hardest parts. That takes guts and bravery! Get enough sleep throughout this entire process. You need to be the best version of yourself.
  2. Have all the necessary requirements filled out and ready to go
    • I always had all of my paperwork printed out and ready to go the night before auditions. You don’t want to be rushing around the morning of. Double, triple check that you have everything. Refer to the Pelicans website for everything you will need.
  3. Wear something flattering/that makes you feel confident
    • This is so important! Along with your physical health, your appearance plays a huge role in this process. It is vital that you wear something that you feel comfortable in, especially in front of the judges. You need your confidence to radiate out of you 🙂 I always love a good bra top with some rhinestones (shout out to my grandma for always hooking me up with some great stone work). I included this picture of Jenna and I (she also always has the cutest tops!) as a reference for what I am talking about. You don’t have to spend a fortune on an outfit, but do put some time into it. Also, don’t be afraid to accessorize and express yourself. First impression is key!

  4. If you’re pasty like me…. GET A SPRAY TAN!
    • This is self explanatory. A good glow goes a long way. Now if you can pull off having a beautiful pale complexion, like my friend Cass, I mean her skin is gorgeous, then rock it. But if you’re like me, ya know not so cute pale, get ya self a spray tan. If you want to do it yourself check out St. Morez self tanner. Orrrrr if you want to get it done check out Cali Bronze or Louisiana Glow
  5. Make sure you wear performance makeup + fix your hair
    • Whenever you hear performance makeup, this means more than you would wear to the grocery or probably to work.. unless you’re extra than do you boo boo. I love a bold lip! typically a pink one. Make sure to wear your hair down, however you feel most confident. Below is my audition makeup look. audmakeup
  6. OTHER:
    • A positive attitude goes a long long way!
    • Smile… its contagious
    • Make friends… introduce yourself. Everyone is in the same boat and probably nervous as hell
    • Bring snacks to Prelims
    • Bring different shoe options. Just incase you can’t do pirouettes in your sneakers etc. Be over prepared.
    • Be open minded and open to helpful criticism
    • Have fun

Goodluck to everyone auditioning this year ❤️ it’ll be strange not dancing there with some of my best friends.
